The favourites
In OK, Britain's Noah Baglin is chasing a second consecutive world title. In June the FIA already described him as heading for the European OK title, with a 79-point lead ahead of the Mülsen round.
In Junior, Will Green arrives as 2026 European champion. He had led the European standings ahead of Daniel Miron Lorente, according to the FIA.
La Conca had already hosted the first round of the European championship, so the favourites know the track.
An anniversary and a plan for the future
Karting was born in California, when Art Ingles and Lou Borelli fitted a 2.5 hp lawnmower engine to a steel-tube chassis. The FIA created its International Karting Commission in 1962 and the first world championship followed in 1964.
Several F1 drivers came through karting. Lando Norris, FIA Karting KF champion in 2014, says: "I miss the karting days." Charles Leclerc, winner of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy in 2011, notes that karting teaches teamwork, set-up and handling pressure. Alain Prost was the first of a long list of former karters to become F1 world champion.
The Global Karting Plan, launched in 2024, aims to make the sport more affordable with the "Arrive and Drive" format, where everyone races on the same loaned equipment. The FIA says costs would fall by about two thirds.
